Sarah Fouts of Cy Young Farm

Sarah Fouts owns and operates Cy Young Farm near Gilmore, Ohio. She has lived on this 140+ acres for almost 50 years. It is called Cy Young Farm because the infamous baseball player grew up on this hallowed ground. The story goes that he learned to throw a ball by aiming at knotholes in the barn siding. Now this barn protects Sarah’s horses, cows, chickens, and sheep.

Sarah has raised Tunis sheep for over 15 years. She currently has around 20 sheep. The Tunis breed has everything she wants in livestock – docile easy temperament, excellent mothering abilities, a hardy constitution. And they are redheads, as Sarah herself and her two grown children. Tunis also produce fine, strong wool.

Originally a gift to George Washington, this sheep from North Africa (Tunisia) is one of the oldest breeds of livestock developed in America. Many of our founding fathers kept Tunis sheep and a flock used to graze on the White House lawn.
