Necchi NC-59QD sewing machine? Let's thread it, wind a bobbin, and sew!

Getting ready to sew on your Necchi NC-59QD sewing machine but not quite sure where to start? I know it can be a little intimidating when you're getting a new machine out of the box. But don't worry—here in my sewing shop, this machine has become a favorite!

In this guide, I’m going to show you everything you need to know to get started, including winding a bobbin, threading the machine, and taking your first few stitches.

Step 1: Winding the Bobbin

The first thing we need to do is wind some thread onto a bobbin.

1. Prepare your spool: Place your thread onto the spool pin and secure it with a spool cap.
2. Follow the guide: We will follow the dashed line diagram on top of the machine for bobbin winding.
3. Thread the guide: Bring the thread under the first silver guide (marked #1).
4. Tension disc: Bring the thread in front of the bobbin winding tension disc (marked #2). Make sure it locks under the disc, bring it around the front, up, and over to the right side.
5. Thread the bobbin: Take the thread tail and bring it from the inside of the bobbin up through one of the holes.
6. Engage the winder: Place the bobbin onto the post and press it to the right.
7. Wind: Hold the thread tail straight up and press your foot pedal. Once filled, push the post back to the left, clip the thread, and remove your bobbin.

Step 2: Threading the Machine

Now, we’ll thread the top part of the machine following the solid line indicators.

1. Initial guides: Keep the thread in the first guide, but remove it from the bobbin tension disc. Bring it behind the second silver guide and down the first channel (marked #3).
2. The U-Turn: Bring the thread down and back up the second channel (marked #4).
3. Take-up lever: At the top, ensure the thread goes through the hole of the silver take-up lever. If you don't see it, turn the flywheel towards you until it appears at its highest point.
4. Final needle guides: Bring the thread back down the second channel and behind the two silver guides located just above the needle (marked #6 and #7).

Step 3: Using the Built-in Needle Threader

1. Raise your needle to the highest position using the flywheel.
2. Press down the white lever to bring the threading hook through the eye of the needle.
3. Lay the thread across the guide and into the hook.
4. Release the lever smoothly to pull a loop of thread through the back of the needle. Pull the loop through, and you’re ready!

Step 4: Inserting the Bobbin

1. Open the clear bobbin cover by sliding the black button to the right.
2. Check rotation: Ensure your thread is unwinding counter-clockwise (like a "P" shape).
3. Drop the bobbin into the case and follow the path around the tension guide until the blade clips the excess thread.
4. Replace the clear door.

Step 5: Your First Stitches

1. Place your fabric under the presser foot and lower the lever.
2. Manual Start: I always like to take the first few stitches by turning the flywheel towards me manually to ensure everything is clear.
3. Adjusting Stitches: Use the dial on the side of the machine to choose your stitch. 'A' is your standard straight stitch!
4. Speed Control: Use the sliding speed control to set your "top speed." Even if you floor the pedal, the machine will stay at your preferred comfort level.
