Intro to Quilting - Maple Leaf Table Runner



Learn the basics of quilting as we make this Maple Leaf Table Runner. You will learn everything you need to know to make a quilt while making this smaller sized piece that you can display in your home. Learn to cut, attach, quilt, and bind your table runner. This class will prepare you for making a full size quilt.

Techniques covered:

Preparing fabric
Cutting fabric pieces
Stitching the pieces together to make a quilt block
Pressing versus Ironing
Practicing accurate 1/4" seam allowances
Chain Stitching
Determining the size needed for your quilt back and batting
Basting your top, batting, and backing to make your "quilt sandwich"
Creating a plan for your quilting design
Choosing the correct needle, thread and machine settings
Quilting the layered quilt sandwich
Determining the length of binging needed
Creating binding strips
Making a quilt label
Attaching the binding

Some experience with basic sewing is preferred but this is a beginner-friendly class.

1/4 yard or 1 fat quarter (FQ) for leaf 1 1/4 yard or 1 fat quarter (FQ) for leaf 2 1/4 yard or 1 fat quarter (FQ) for leaf 3 1/4 yard or 1 fat quarter (FQ) for the leaf backgrounds 1/8 yard for the inside border 1/4 yard for the outside border 1/3 yard for the binding 3/4 yard for the backing (or 46″ x 22″) 46″ x 22″ batting Coordinating thread
